Connecting Through Passion
In today’s digital age, meeting new people online can lead to amazing friendships and exciting business partnerships. Are you ready to connect with those who share your drive and enthusiasm? That’s exactly how I felt when I met Aimz, a vibrant personal trainer and fitness enthusiast right in Bedford!
From Athlete to DJ
I've always sought ways to monetize my talents, and DJ'ing at a fitness class feels like a full-circle moment for me. Back in school, I was a standout athlete—sprinting 100m in 11 seconds, nearly breaking the county record for the 200m, and shining as a star basketball, rugby, swimming, and athletics. I even dominated the football field as a center-back! However, I wasn’t sure where my path would lead me after school. This uncertainty followed me into college, where I explored personal training, massage therapy, and even considered physiotherapy. My dream? To own a chain of gyms with my surname—how cool would that be?
But let’s get back to the fun part! I love connecting with people who share a passion for fitness without being overly competitive or obsessed. Aimz radiated warmth and enthusiasm, and I felt an instant connection.
Mixing Beats and Fitness
We brainstormed the idea of me providing a DJ service during her classes. Sure, it’s been done before, but I believe I can bring a unique flair to the mix! Aimz shared her Spotify playlist, and I was thrilled to find some of my all-time favorite D&B tracks—Mampi Swift, Moving Fusion, and a treasure trove of Shy Fx! Combine that with classic UK Garage, and I knew I had something special to offer.
For those not familiar with DJ'ing, mixing UKG at 138 BPM and D&B at 174 BPM can be tricky! It’s all about timing and creativity. In fitness classes, I’ve often found myself frustrated by the long pauses between songs. But as a live DJ, I can keep the energy flowing, dropping beats right at the drop and blending tracks seamlessly. The excitement of reading the room and adjusting the vibe is something no algorithm can replicate!
Planning the Perfect Set
As I dove into DJ mode, I started strategizing how to structure a 45-minute set. How would I incorporate Aimz’s voice? Did she have a wireless mic? How would our systems interact? Would I hear her cues while mixing? My fitness background became invaluable as I envisioned the energy flow of the class. I knew that short, intense bursts of energy would require the right tracks at the right time.
To ensure we were on the same page, I asked Aimz about her class structure: How long was the warm-up? How many sprints? How would we build up to the grand finale? What would we choose as the cool down? (K.P & Envyi - 'Swing My Way' if you must know) With this information, I could craft a dynamic mix that would elevate the experience for everyone involved. Plus, I had never met Aimz in person, which added a layer of excitement and challenge!
Creating Magic Together
After 25 days of planning and promoting—while I was off DJ'ing in the USA, Hungary, and Mykonos—we finally filled a class with 30 enthusiastic participants. Every single one of them raved about how fun and challenging the experience was! This reaffirmed that we have the potential, combination of passion and chemistry to create even more events together.
Now, we’re on the lookout for a gym with at least 30 spin bikes, where we can split costs and create something truly special. If you know of a place, please reach out! For now, we’re eagerly waiting for Aimz to finalize her own studio, and I can't wait to support her amazing range of fitness classes.
Join the Fun!
Whether you’re a fitness enthusiast, a DJ, or just someone looking to connect, remember that magic happens when you share your passion with others. Let’s keep the energy high and the vibes positive—who knows what amazing opportunities await! Afterall, I may have found a lifelong business partner through Instagram, that alone is something special. Coming up next - I am supporting The Original Culture Festival with Subjam.
